MY SERVICES
One-to-one individual counselling & therapy in Brighton & Hove, and online.

I work out of a calm, private therapy space in central Hove. I also love working with clients online, all over the world.

When you visit me, I’ll make sure you’re comfortable, and answer any questions you have.

I’ve been working in this field a long time, and there’s very little I haven’t seen or heard before.

We’ll talk about what brought you here, and where you’re at in your life today.

You don’t have to have all your story in order.

You can bring emotions or facts, or both, or neither.

You don’t have to know how you’re feeling.

Whatever you bring to me, we’ll start from there.

We’ll explore how your past is impacting on your present, and what you’d like to change.

With each session, we’ll unlock pieces of the puzzle. You’ll gather resources that are right for you, and learn to live your life in a way that serves you.
A note on trauma

As a trauma-informed psychotherapist, I’ve noticed that my clients often believe that their suffering isn’t big enough to be called trauma.

People often think Trauma (with a capital T) must be something earth-shattering. Like an assault or a road accident.

But there is no hierarchy of suffering. It’s not about how the world classifies the incident. It’s how your brain reacts to it.
If it’s being replayed in your nervous system, it’s trauma. Whether that’s with a big or a small T.

Whatever’s happened to you in the past, if it’s affecting you now, that’s not right.
I’ll help you integrate and move beyond the stuff from before.
You’re not on your own now.
If you’re:
reacting in ways you don’t like
can’t form the relationships you want
suffering today from something that happened years ago
living with addictions or other habits you don’t want
...the cause is probably trauma.

FAQs
How long will I need therapy for?
It’s really up to you. However, you can usually do good work in 10-12 weeks.
Are you only for people in their 20s and 30s?
Absolutely not. Although I mostly work with young professionals, I see adult clients at all ages, including younger people in their late teens.
However, you must be over 18 to access my services.
Is everything I tell you confidential?
Yes, completely confidential. Please see my Confidentiality & Ethics Guidelines on this website.
What’s your experience / qualification?
I’ve been a practising psychotherapist for over 15 years. I’ve worked in the NHS, charity sector and private practice.

I’ve got tons of qualifications, including a Master’s in Transpersonal Psychotherapy.
I’m also trained in Trauma therapy. For more information, visit my About page.
What’s the difference between a psychotherapist and a counsellor?
In general, psychotherapists have a range of techniques they can use.
Counsellors without psychotherapy training can be excellent listeners and advisors, but they aren’t trained to such a high level.

Psychotherapy qualifications take many years to complete (mine took six years). We have to undergo counselling ourselves, and keep on top of current practice.

A counsellor might have tons of training, or very little. It’s the wild west in terms of who you get when you book one.
Think of a psychotherapy qualification as a mark of assurance. It’s the gold standard when it comes to the quality and length of the training.
How do I choose the best therapist in Brighton?
Who is the best therapist? That’s the one who’s right for you. I suggest checking counsellor’s websites and profiles on Counselling Directory or Brighton & Hove Therapy Hub.
Go for a trial session to see if they’re for you. And remember, you’re under no obligation to continue if you don’t like what they say.
How do I book a session?
Visit my contact page to send a request directly to me.
I have a question that’s not answered here.
Please get in touch, and I'll do my best to help.
“When I first came to Jayne I was in despair. She got me to look through the layers of my trauma, down to what was going on beneath the surface. Therapy with Jayne wasn’t what I’d been expecting – it was so much better than that.”
